Cloud Illusions
4:22 — Music: Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell, Arranged and Performed by Solem Quartet
Inspired by Doris Humphrey’s Water Study, this piece explores images of clouds and their ephemeral nature. The dancers act as an ensemble, depicting cloud movement through a variety of choreographic composition tools. As in Mitchell’s lyrics, the dance attempts to examine shifting perspectives throughout a lifetime and how everyone can look at the same sky and see many varying images.

Timelines
5:42 — Music: Timeless by Poppy Ackroyd
Timelines evolved from a simple movement idea—a leg swing to represent a pendulum—into a complex, almost mathematical equation. The piece examines the persistence of time, the challenges it may present, and the variety of ways that people may experience the passage of time. What happens when an individual deviates from the societal timeline, intentionally or accidentally?

Echoes
5:52 — Music: Edelweiss by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Arranged and Performed by J.J. Heller
This piece takes inspiration from the delicate and beautiful Edelweiss flower, which grows in rocky, alpine climates. The soft flower perseveres, much like an important, cherished memory. Echoes explores memory and how it can change over time. The dancers long for the special memories of their past, which lie just out of reach. Throughout the piece, dancers movements are echoed by their silhouetted counterparts. While in real life we cannot go back to relive our most important moments, the piece imagines what that experience might be like.
This piece utilizes a scrim for effect, but it could be adapted if one is not available.
